We are offering our first collection of 12 beautiful Czech Christmas carols. This lovely selection of celebratory, wonderfully melodic, lesser-known (outside Central Europe) carols has been skillfully arranged and edited to fit early intermediate piano skills. The arrangements of the carol are intended for a group of late beginner to early intermediate-level piano students. We kept the arrangements short, extended only by repetitions and within keys not exceeding one sharp or flat, except “We Three Kings,” which is in the key of D major. In all arrangements, both hands move from position to position, and a certain level of accomplished finger dexterity is required.

We open our Twelve Carols of Czech Christmas with a carol that is not a folk song, and it’s not Czech by its origin. However, it’s about one of the most famous figures in Czech history ever known. This is a lovely Christmas carol that tells the heartwarming story of Saint Wenceslaus, the 10th-century Duke of Bohemia. As the patron saint of the Czech nation, he's remembered for his incredible kindness and charity. It's a beautiful reminder of the spirit of giving! The following carols are closely tied to the Czech and Slavic Christmas traditions and the ritual of caroling. Groups of children, along with their parents and family members, would go from house to house, singing and asking for gifts in return. All households were prepared to welcome these carolers and enjoy their beautiful songs that celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ, their desire to go to Bethlehem to witness the event, and some described the events of the Lord’s birth. Some carols even had a humorous twist, where the carolers attempted to negotiate a sizable reward for their singing, promising to deliver it to the newborn baby. All content symbolized the season's devotion and spirit of giving. We hope you will enjoy playing the beautiful melodies and sharing your lovely renditions with your loved ones and anyone who would love to hear these lovely folk songs for the most beautiful season of the year.
